Call for Submissions

“I have never listened to anyone who criticized my taste in space travel, sideshows or gorillas.  When this occurs, I pack up my dinosaurs and leave the room. For, you see, it is all mulch.” – Ray Bradbury, 1980

Gather all of your mulch! Gather all of the fertilized creations therein! Strange Ways Magazine Vol. 1 is now out, and we will soon be accepting submissions for its second iteration!

Strange Ways Magazine is a platform for talented and thoughtful people to collectively give shape to a single theme through a variety of mediums. Each issue of the magazine is an eclectic collection of work in a traditional print format that iterates around the chosen theme.  We will be announcing the theme and submission deadline for our second issue shortly so please stay tuned.

Once we have announced the theme, we are looking for contributions that in some way relate to that theme in the form of poetry, fiction, essays, book reviews, film reviews, drawings, paintings, photographs, incantations, invocations, illustrations, scholarship, and the guts of other magazines (fashioned into ornate jewelry or otherwise splayed about). We have no preconceived notion about the boundaries of where each theme begins and where it ends, and we look forward to exploring that together.

At Strange Ways Magazine, content is king and authors are revered; we are merely the stewards in the corner with glue all over our faces. We would be honored if you would consider submitting something for possible inclusion in our subsequent issues and are happy to work with you to materialize something for the magazine. Please reach out to us with ideas and/or complete submissions at

Publishing guidelines:

  • Short stories / Essays: Please limit your contributions to 5,000 words or less. We only ask that the work demonstrates adherence to the issue’s theme.
  • Poetry: We’re aiming for shorter, snappier pieces. Basically, don’t send us an Iliad-length epic and you’re fine.

We aim to respond to all submissions within a week, but don’t be surprised or discouraged if you don’t hear back in a month or so! You will receive a response, we promise.
